Bids opened on Thursday, May 26

South Street Project advances another step!

Glens Falls Mayor Jack Diamond announced that bids were opened on the South Street Infrastructure Project on Thursday, May 26, 2011.

There were a total of 5 bids ranging from $1.1 to $1.6 million. Bids are being reviewed and an announcement of the apparent low bidder will be made next week. A substantial portion of funding for this project nearly $1 million was provided through the Offices of U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer.

Mayor Diamond also wants to remind residents of the changes on South Street and the Elm Street Parking lot beginning Wednesday June 1st:

  • South Street sidewalk (16- 24 South Street) in front of the building – including theĀ  former Madden Hotel – will be temporarily closed for safety reasons during demolition andĀ  construction of the new Glens Falls National Bank Building.
  • Vehicles will no longer be able to exit from the elm street lot through the alley onto South Street near Glen Street. Following construction, the area will become a pedestrian walkway.
  • Parking will not be permitted behind the former Madden Hotel and directly behind Glens Falls National Bank in the Elm Street lot. For safety purposes, this area will be fenced off.

Information is also being distributed next week to owners of vehicles parked in the Elm Street lot and to businesses along Glen and South Streets.
