South Street in downtown Glens Falls

The City of Glens Falls, New York, is making renovations to South Street, one of its downtown streets. This website was developed by the Glens Falls Economic Development Group to keep the public informed while these renovations take place.

South Street Infrastructure Improvements & Redevelopment Projects

The new face of South Street about to be revealed

The long-awaited $1.722 Million Project to improve and redevelop the South Street Infrastructure is underway.
Through the efforts of Mayor Jack Diamond and Common Council, funding was secured from a variety of sources:

Senator Charles Schumer                    $974,000
Senator Betty Little                                 $73,000
Former Congressman Scott Murphy    $150,000
City & Water and Sewer                       $525,000

The project area is along South Street from the intersection of South and Glen Streets to the intersection of South and New Pruyn Streets.

The project generally includes pavement resurfacing of South Street, replacement of curbing, sidewalks and drop curb ramps, new street lighting and street trees, decorative pavers, and signage.

The project will also include the installation of storm sewers within the roadway, replacement of portions of the combined sewer collection facilities, and water lines required for new hydrant installations.

It is the intent to make every effort to keep traffic moving on South Street during this construction period.

Glens Falls National Bank Project on South Street

Part of the South Street Redevelopment Project is the Glens Falls National Bank Project. This project consists of demolition of the vacant Madden Hotel and the construction of a new multi-story brick façade building. Demolition of the Madden is underway with new construction of the Glens Falls National Bank building to follow.
