Today the Madden Hotel came down. Mayor Jack Diamond says it’s the beginning of a new era for South Street and for the City of Glens Falls. Images are on the photos page.

Glens Falls Economic Development Director Ed Bartholomew says, “While the former Madden is being demolished, the city, our contractor and other reporters are meeting with Glens Falls National Bank and their architects and planners to review status of our projects, timetable and coordination as the building is literally coming down this morning.

“Exciting time for the City- The long talked about revitalization is now underway. Through the efforts and visions of Mayor Diamond and Council- South Street is being re-energized!

“The South Street infrastructure project has started. Contractor Rifenburg’s mobilizing equipment commences with a sanitary storm line at the west end of Broad/South Streets and going eastward toward Glen Street. The majority of the project will be completed by late fall. More on the agenda: Sidewalks, trees, paving, streetscape lighting.”
